LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME! 👐

“It is believed by experienced doctors that the heat which oozes out of the hand, on being applied to the sick, is highly salutary.”

Hippocrates.

The fifth century Greek healer Hippocrates knew that mental and physical health were interrelated. Exploring bioenergetic healing he would cure patients by laying his hands on them drawing and removing pain.

Inspired by his example I’d like to introduce the concept of a simplified (yet effective) healing method available to all experienced Chi Kung and Tai Chi practitioners.

Energetic healing can be found in all the different realms of the internal arts.

In the case of Chi Kung there are specific energy transmissions for healing. For instance there is a technique called ‘Buddha’s Hands Bring Back Spring’ whereby a patient lies down while the healer acts as a conduit, using the hands to clear stale chi, send fresh chi, then seal chi.

As for Tai Chi we all know that the postures themselves can be used for self healing be they static or moving. But within the older systems there are also ‘rebalancings’ which are usually (but not always) based on martial applications, some are quite complicated while others much more simple and field expedient (these are the ones I pass on in class, such as the ‘Seven Stars’ or ‘Repulse Monkey’).

For these to work you need to have developed internally, from the simple yet necessary requirement to become ‘sung’ to the ability to boost your own chi for protection (negating burn out) or even being temporarily emotionally closed (negating back wash), and of course the ever important ability to slough off any negative chi that may have snuck through (it’s unlikely but you never know).

Bringing me to a concept passed on by Gabriel Chin which is far simpler than any of the above (don’t get me wrong I like them, I use them!).

Gabriel’s lineage was from Yang Ban Hou (just one teacher away) and has to do with Lien Qi – practice with the bodies electromagnetic current. In order to heal others you first have to control your own energy, use your mind to feel inside the body, create an energy field, seal it in the abdomen and then put it anywhere you want to – it’s basically what we do all lesson long!

[Side note : Gabriel himself said “This is not connected to religion at all. It is part of humans’ natural composition.]

So here we go!

Let’s say someone has accidentally cut their hand or hit themselves with a hammer, then naturally and immediately chi will flow into that part of the body, you’re just going to augment it a little.

Firstly – you’ve all heard me say it a million times and I still stand absolutely behind it “You can only heal people who want to be healed”, because otherwise they will just block your efforts.

Secondly – put your (clean) hands directly over the injury, using intent to send chi to your hands, which often produces the ‘Plum Blossom Effect ‘ (purple blotches on the palms). Hold them in situ for some time to help heal the injury, reduce pain and even slow down bleeding.

It really works, but time is an important factor if you leave an injury site alone for two days then it will be too late for this to work (you’re not out of options just this one).

Please keep in mind that this is no replacement for common sense first aid or modern medicine but it is a very effective adjunct to these, as they say in Okinawa :

“One must rely half on the doctor, and half on the shaman.”

Yes this technique may be overly simple compared to other systems, but simple methods are often the most effective and are easy to remember and apply in the field.
