Over the weekend Natalie and I received a batch of free pumpkins from a friend. So taking the advice of Captain John Painter (a couple of posts back) I blended up two pans of roasted veg soup for winter nourishment. According to Natalie's Chinese herbal cookbook pumpkin is sweet in flavour and warm in nature - which strengthens the spleen and replenishes chi. I also snuck in some chestnuts which are also sweet, but cold in nature - these are moistening and so encourage the production of body fluids and strengthen Lung Yin, so are ideal for dry coughs and wheezes. Now all I have to do is find some freezer space!
Blessings
